Call Back Program

Mamquam School has a “telephone call back” system in place.  This is a personal safety feature designed to ensure that students arrive at school safely each day.  Parents can assist us in reducing the number of calls the secretary makes, by calling the school (604-898-3601), or emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , when it is known that their son/daughter will be absent.  If your child arrives at school late, s/he must report to the office for a late slip in order to be admitted into the classroom.

Supervision

Supervision of the playground and building begins at 8:40 AM.  Please do not send your child to school prior to this time unless s/he is attending a supervised activity.  Children who arrive at school earlier than 8:40 do not have the benefit of adult supervision.  After school supervision ends at 3:15 PM, so it’s important that students go directly home after school.

Parking Lot Safety

Parents are requested to use the Drop-off Zones, located at either end of the parking lot, when either picking up or dropping off students at the school. Please pull all of the way into the school lot to avoid backing up of vehicles on Government Road, and park your vehicle in a parking space if you are not remaining in the car. Please DO NOT “wait” for children in the front of the school, drive through areas, or in the pick-up, drop-off zones.

The safety of all students will be better ensured, if everyone follows these simple courtesies.

Sign Out Routine

Students leaving the school grounds prior to 3:00 p.m., MUST sign out at the office, whether leaving for lunch or an appointment.  This is so that in the event of an emergency, all students can be accounted for.  Students must sign back in upon returning to school.

School Visits

When visiting the school or a classroom, you are asked to check in at the office when you arrive.

Field Trip Volunteers

If you plan to volunteer in a classroom or on field trips, a Criminal Record Check MUST be completed and on file at the school.  Please obtain a form from the office early in the school year to alleviate any last minute scrambling to go on a field-trip.

Student Pick-up

If you are sending someone to pick up your child(ren), please inform the office of this intent, and provide the name of the person picking up.

Sick Children

When children are ill, it is our policy to send them home as soon as possible.  Our practice is to call parents and to ask that the student either be picked up or be given parental permission to go home.  For this reason it is important that parents keep work, cell and emergency phone numbers updated in our office files.

Medication for Students

Please be aware that in order to administer any prescribed medication to a child, parents/guardians must complete a “Request for Administration of Medication at School” form which must be signed by the prescribing doctor.  The form may be obtained at the school office.

Anaphylactic Student Protection Act

Anaphylaxis (Life Threatening Allergy) Information and the Anaphylaxis Management Plan must be completed at the start of each school year in conjunction with the School Principal or designee.  For your child’s safety, notify the office at any time you discover that your child has a life threatening allergy.

Emergency Response and Fire Drills

Regular fire drills and emergency response drills will be held throughout the year to practice student safety procedures.

School Closure

In the event of power failures, or extreme weather conditions, please listen to Mountain FM (107.1) for information about the school.

Bicycles

Parents are asked to review safety with their children.  Students are asked to walk their bicycles while on school property.  Bikes should be locked in the racks to prevent theft.  Bicycle helmets are required by law.   Students must not ride their bicycles to school unless a helmet is worn.

Crosswalks

Bicycle riders should walk their bicycles when using the crosswalks.
